Court Upholds Sex Offender Law

New York’s Megan’s Law is constitutional, a federal appeals court ruled, clearing the way for the state to release the names of sex offenders after they leave prison. The U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in Albany unanimously rejected arguments of three sex offenders who sought to block the law. Earlier this week, the 3rd Circuit in Philadelphia upheld Megan’s Law in New Jersey. The law is named for 7-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was killed in 1994 by a convicted sex offender who lived nearby.
