BULLFROGS TONIGHT

Opponent--Blades

Site--The Pond

Time--7:30

Records--Bullfrogs 16-9; Blades 11-9-5

Bullfrog update--The Bullfrogs played one of their best games of the season in defeating the Blades, 7-2, Thursday in the first game of this Western Conference semifinal playoff series. Todd Wetzel had two goals, as did defenseman Darren Perkins, who was playing for only the third time since missing 11 games with a torn quadriceps. The team’s leading scorer, Victor Gervais, added a goal and three assists. Anaheim holds an 8-1 lead in postseason games with the Blades, and has won all five playoff games with them at the Pond. Defenseman B.J. MacPherson is doubtful. He dislocated an ankle Aug. 9 at Sacramento.

Blade update--This could be the final game in the five-year history of the franchise. Blade General Manager Tim Ryan said that owners Jerry and Jeanie Buss are evaluating whether to continue in Roller Hockey International, fold the team or go on hiatus in 1998. It could be a quick playoff exit for the Blades anyway. In the first game of the series, they were outshot, 14-3, to open the game. Leading scorer Doug Ast is expected to play, despite a sore knee. So is second leading scorer Kevin St. Jacques, who missed five games with a broken hand, and forward Ian McIntyre, who has not played since July 20 because of a back injury.
