Businesses Rejected for Sea Terrace Park

Monarch Beach residents are applauding a decision by the City Council this week to reject proposed commercial recreation facilities at Sea Terrace Park.
In recent months, three developers proposed building a miniature golf course, hockey and sports arena and golf learning center at the 26-acre park.
About a dozen Monarch Beach residents launched a protest, citing noise and traffic concerns.
The park, located near Dana Niguel Library and Pacific Coast Highway, is largely undeveloped, with some walking paths and greenbelts.
“We don’t need to convert our greenbelts and open space to commercial enterprises,” resident Jack Bloodworth said. “We don’t want to sacrifice our open space.”
Added resident Lynn Dawson: “Don’t turn us into Coney Island.”
The residents also asked the council to develop a plan to improve Sea Terrace Park. Only 3.2 acres of the park have been developed, and $1.2 million has been set aside by the city to improve the park.
The council, which unanimously rejected any commercial development at the park, said it would consider improvement issues at a future date.
