Hillside Clearance

I don’t understand the logic of canyon residents who don’t/won’t clear their brush (June 15). When you choose to live in the canyons, you do so with the knowledge that in exchange for the rustic escape from urban tumult, you have more responsibilities than the average city dweller. You trim your trees and brush on a regular basis so that you aren’t hit with a huge clearance tab; you learn what trees, shrubs and plants are water-based and do not burn so you can have greenery year-round; you do not have a shake roof; you understand that services of the fire department, whether to put out a fire or to police the area for brush clearance, are subsidized by the taxpayer.

I know this, for we live in Benedict Canyon and we are taxpayers.
