The California Traditional Music Society will present a Celtic music concert with Irish musicians Joe and Antoinette McKenna and Mary Bergin at 8 p.m. Saturday at Soka University in Calabasas.
Joe McKenna performs on the uillean pipes, whistle and button accordion. His wife, Antoinette, performs on the harp, while her sister, Mary Bergin, is a renowned tin whistle player, having been named “All Ireland Champion” while still a teenager. All three also sing. Their repertoire includes traditional and contemporary Celtic music. This is the first Southern California appearance by these native Dubliners in over 10 years.
Tickets for Saturday’s concert are $15-$25.
Folk singer-songwriter-storyteller Bill Staines will hold the stage at 2 p.m. Sunday. Staines has been a regular on the folk music circuit for over 25 years. A New England native, Staines has performed on “A Prairie Home Companion” and other radio and television programs.
Besides his original tunes, Staines’ material ranges from traditional songs to contemporary ballads to even a yodeling number or two. Staines was a national yodeling champion in 1975.
Tickets for Sunday’s concert are $10-$20.
