HUNTSVILLE, Texas — An oil-field worker was executed Tuesday for the 1987 slayings of three people, including a 10-year-old girl and an ex-boss who was promoted ahead of him.
Eddie James Johnson, 44, was pronounced dead seven minutes after he was injected with a lethal dose of drugs.
Johnson, the 23rd inmate put to death in 1997, was the second condemned killer marched into the Texas death chamber this week and the seventh this month. Another execution was set for today as Texas extends a record year for carrying out capital punishment.
On Monday, another inmate signed off in a final statement with, “Let’s rock ‘n’ roll.” David Stoker, 38, was executed for the murder of a convenience store clerk.
