Environmental Report on Mall Flawed, Critics Charge

The city’s environmental impact report for the proposed Westwood Village movie mall is deeply flawed and does not clearly address the impact the project will have on the neighborhood, community activists charged Tuesday.

Residents groups, including the Holmby-Westwood Property Owners Assn. and Friends of Westwood, recently submitted about 80 pages of comments arguing that the report does not adequately analyze traffic congestion or the economic cost and benefit to the city.

The multimillion-dollar shopping complex and multiplex has been praised by businesses seeking to revive retail traffic in Westwood. City planners will take up the issue again once the public comment period ends July 28.
