Family Home Safety Workshop Scheduled

St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital will offer a family home safety workshop at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Topics will include how to prevent accidents and poisoning, as well as how to prepare for earthquakes.
The purpose of the workshop is to provide information that will help reduce avoidable injuries, said June English, a health educator from Ventura County Public Health.
“We have a large rate of children within the last year who have been transported to the hospital with preventable injuries, mostly resulting from falls and sports injuries,” English said. “With a little guidance, parents can make themselves and their children aware of what precautions to take.”
English will also discuss the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid training.
Although calling 911 is the first step in a medical crisis, there is a critical time between when the call is made and when the emergency services arrive, English said.
“During that time, if parents know CPR and first aid, they can do a lot in terms of helping themselves,” she said.
The family home safety workshop is free and will be held at the hospital, 2309 Antonio Ave., Camarillo. Call 389-5176 to make a reservation.
