* Re “Riding the Ripples of a Border Boom,” on the maquiladoras (June 9): I had no idea that exploitation of workers was actually beneficial to them. I now have to wonder why so many revolutions have occurred against colonialism. The ungrateful wretches!
I now understand that all this stuff about pollution near maquiladoras being so bad that children are born with birth defects, workers living in cardboard boxes, long hours, low wages, speedups, enforced contraception for women and sexual harassment and death squads killing union organizers was just a conspiracy theory by these paranoid leftists.
Yes, can’t one just imagine the joy of performing the same repetitive task over and over for 12 hours to enrich some foreign investors. These workers must welcome the sunrise every morning!
