Computers

Re “Technology Remains Promise, Not Panacea,” June 8.
I believe that computers are a necessary tool for schools and must be funded at all cost. As a student attending an LAUSD high school, I have realized just how beneficial computer literacy among my peers can be in a world in which e-mail and the Web have become the norm.
Computers are fast becoming a staple of everyday life, and to deprive us of these new tools would be comparable to not letting us enter libraries. Teachers who are “computer-illiterate” should not stand in the way. If expenses have to be cut, let it not be a tool that can help us pave a way to a brighter tomorrow.
