Galaxy update--The missing players are the story. Eduardo Hurtado is with Ecuador, which plays Chile in a key World Cup qualifying game. Mauricio Cienfuegos is with El Salvador, which is host to Mexico in another, equally important, qualifying game for France ’98. Goalkeeper Jorge Campos is suspended because of a red card received in his return last Saturday, a 3-1 loss to Kansas City.
Revolution update--New England, under 1996 MLS coach of the year and former Los Angeles Aztec Thomas Rongen, has won three in a row and is in second place in the Eastern Conference, one game behind defending champion Washington D.C. United. Assistant Renato Capobianco replaces the suspended Rongen today after a Rongen run-in with referee Tim Weyland in Dallas. Forward Chiquinho Conde of Mozambique is the league’s sixth-leading scorer but misses the game because of the death of his brother. The Revolution also features World Cup ’90 goalkeeper Walter Zenga of Italy.
