Newbury Park’s Dan Block was perfect in three at-bats, but his team would have had nothing to show for it without his double in the bottom of the eighth inning that led to an 11-10 victory over Westlake in a District 16 American Legion game Saturday at Newbury Park High.
The teams split a doubleheader, with Westlake winning the opener, 10-6.
Block, who was three for three, doubled to lead off the eighth. One out later, he scored on a single by Ryan Shipton. Dan Green (1-0) entered with none out in the sixth, and after giving up a home run, retired the last seven batters.
In the opener, Kevin Howard had two hits and three runs batted in for Westlake (1-1). His bases empty home run triggered a three-run rally in the third, and his two-run single in the fifth highlighted a five-run rally. Newbury Park is 3-2.
Central Valley 4, Woodland Hills West 3--A two-run double by Casey Roth keyed a three-run outburst in the bottom of the first for Central Valley, but it was an error on Roth’s fly ball in the fifth that allowed the winning run to score in a District 20 game.
Justin Savitt led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second. He scored when Roth’s fly to center was dropped.
San Fernando 3, Quartz Hill North 2--Danny Vega led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and scored the winning run when the next three batters walked in a District 20 game. Ronald Herrera (1-0) pitched a complete game.
North Hollywood West 14, Granada Hills West 1--Arnold Vasquez hit a three-run home run and had five RBIs for North Hollywood (1-0) in a District 20 game.
Edgar Pineda had two hits and two RBIs.
