Coastline College Wins Emmy Award

Coastline Community College will win a Los Angeles Area Emmy Award for instructional programming during Saturday’s ceremony at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

“Cycles of Life: Exploring Biology” premiered on the college’s KOCE-TV in fall, 1996, and presented 26 story-formatted episodes on science for student viewers. The series was part of the curriculum for a college telecourse.

The series focused on the interrelations between all living organisms, from the chemical origins of life to complex and fragile ecosystems. By merging art, science and technology, the series offered footage from around the world, three-dimensional animation and microvideography.

“We are honored to be recognized,” said Laurie Harer, coordinating producer. “It’s a tremendous accomplishment for the production team and Coastline.”

Harer will join executive producer Jim Le May, Harry Ratner, KOCE senior editor Gordon Smith, project producer Marian Inova and biology professors Bob Egan and Bonnie Roohk in accepting the award at the Emmy ceremony.
