SEAL BEACH — Rockwell International Corp.’s semiconductor unit said it has completed its previously announced purchase of the wireless video and data transmission chip business of San Diego-based ComStream Corp.
Rockwell’s acquisition of ComStream’s Hi-Media division for $50 million in cash expands Rockwell Semiconductor Systems’ wireless communications product line. Hi-Media, which has 65 employees in North America and Europe, has supplied the digital transmission integrated circuits for more than half the TV-top controller boxes for direct broadcast satellite systems in the United States.
Rockwell Semiconductor is the Newport Beach-based communications electronics unit of Rockwell International, which is based in Seal Beach.
