Colleges / Campus scene

Heith J. Rothman, president of Cal State Fullerton’s Associated Students, has been reelected. He will be the first student to serve three consecutive terms in the student government’s highest post, college officials said.

When first elected, Rothman, who was the youngest student president, promised students a book scholarship program.

Today, the university’s bookstore awards free books to needy students who maintain a 2.5 or higher grade-point average. Since its creation in 1995, the bookstore fund has awarded more than $30,000 in free textbooks, officials said.

In 1996, Rothman supported a referendum that raised student fees by $10 so that a child-care facility could be built on campus. He also helped raise more than $3 million for the university to build the facility.

Now, the 22-year-old senior promises to increase the number of scholarships given by the Associated Students organization. He also wants to develop a student customer-service plan that would hear student concerns on an individual basis.
