Two Ventura County men have pleaded guilty to robbing a Ventura bank, concluding an investigation that lasted more than a year, the FBI announced Wednesday.
Steven Richard Mendoza of Oxnard and Eddie F. Powell of Ventura, both 41, were convicted of robbing the First Interstate Bank branch in the 300 block of South Wells Road in March 1996.
Prior to a trial set to start this week in U. S. District Court in Los Angeles, the two agreed to plead guilty to armed bank robbery charges.
Authorities said Mendoza has also pleaded guilty to one count of firearms violation.
He also accepted responsibility for a robbery two years ago at the Home Savings of America branch in the 3300 block of Telephone Road in Ventura, FBI agents said.
He is set for sentencing July 21. Powell’s sentencing date is Sept. 15.
