Orange Coast College will award 1,880 associate in arts degrees and professional certificates at the college’s 49th commencement Friday.
The event’s featured speaker is Tom S. Garrison, 1996-97 faculty member of the year and coordinator of the marine science program.
Also speaking is student Beverly Hur, a communications major from Costa Mesa who competes on the debate team. She will transfer to USC in the fall.
During the ceremony, Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ed Fawcett will be awarded the annual Outstanding Citizen Award.
Margaret A. Gratton will preside over her first commencement as college president. She moved from a community college near Portland, Ore., last summer after accepting the post.
Graduation ceremonies start at 6:30 p.m. in LeBard Stadium at OCC, 2701 Fairview Road.
