La Canada Doubles Down Chaminade

Sparked by a pair of doubles by Jamie Hurst and Lauren Herman, the La Canada High girls’ softball team scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning Tuesday to defeat Chaminade, 5-3, in a second-round game of the Southern Section Division IV playoffs at Chaminade Middle School.

La Canada (15-8) will face El Segundo, a 4-2 winner over Bishop Montgomery, in a quarterfinal Thursday at a site to be determined.

La Canada tied the score, 2-2, in the seventh when Kara Campbell scored from third on a single by Kristell Perez. Campbell had two hits and two runs batted in, and Stephanie Tenerelli had three hits and an RBI.

Freshman Kristen Senac (9-2) earned the victory, allowing three runs on six hits with three walks and no strikeouts. She pitched nine innings and gave way after facing two batters in the 10th. Diane Abeles earned her second save.

Sophomore Maureen LeCocq (18-8) pitched all 10 innings for Chaminade (19-10). She struck out seven, walked five and allowed 10 hits.

In another Division IV game:

Cabrillo 3, Alemany 2--Miranda Kennedy’s ground-rule double scored Kristine Everly from second and gave the Conquistadores (16-12) the victory at Cabrillo.

Alemany led, 2-0, after 5 1/2 innings, but Cabrillo’s Melissa Cota doubled in two runs with one out in the sixth to tie the score.

Meghann Reiss had three hits and scored a run for Alemany.

DIVISION II

Saugus 1, El Dorado 0--Tracy Passafiume scored on Nicole Giordano’s bases-loaded walk in the top of the 11th inning, and the third-seeded Centurions (24-5) survived a scare at El Dorado.

Giordano (24-5) pitched a five-hitter and struck out 11.

Hart 2, Mira Costa 1--Courtney Sherlock scored on an error and Kortney Downen scored on a single by Vanessa Raschella in the third inning for the Indians (23-8) at Mira Costa (18-10).

Amanda Fortune (21-6) earned the victory, allowing six hits, striking out four and walking one.

DIVISION III

La Palma Kennedy 1, Burroughs 0--Traci Hensel pitched a one-hitter and struck out 16 for the third-seeded Fighting Irish (22-5) at Burroughs.

Dani Morris’ leadoff single in the first inning was the only hit for the Indians (16-11).

Freshman Malia Sullivan (8-4) allowed just two hits and an unearned run for Burroughs.

DIVISION V

Paraclete 3, Flintridge Prep 2--Ruth Anderson scored the winning run on Latisha Hernandez’s fielders choice with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning at Jane Reynolds Park. Margo Horner singled to score Vicki McKay with the tying run in the same inning.

McKay (20-1) pitched a six-hitter and had three hits and an RBI for the Spirits (25-3).

St. Bonaventure 2, Village Christian 1--Lyndsi Wilder scored the game-winning run in the second inning on a double by Dolly Villa to give the Seraphs (18-8) a victory at home.

The Crusaders (17-10) scored on consecutive two-out doubles by Emilee Taritero and Jacklyn Aranda in the first inning.

DIVISION VI

Cornerstone Christian 5, L.A. Lutheran 1--Julia Tamai had four hits--including a home run and a double--with three RBIs and she scored twice for the Eagles (18-4) at L.A. Lutheran.
