SEASON AT A GLANCE: After Tuesday’s Southern Section Division I playoff game at Notre Dame High, Rainer is batting .409 with 20 runs batted in. As a pitcher, he is 8-2 with a .268 earned run average. He also plays first base and has been one of the Highlanders’ top players in the field.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Rainer, playing first base, had a double, a home run and three RBIs to help Royal rout Channel League co-champion Hueneme, 14-3, last Tuesday in a Division I wild-card game at Hueneme. In a first-round game three days later, Rainer defeated Palmdale, 12-2, allowing five hits and two runs over five innings.
