Two high school boys’ volleyball teams from the region are still alive in the Southern Section playoffs--Royal and Harvard-Westlake.
Royal plays Capistrano Valley at 7 p.m. in a Division I semifinal tonight at Simi Valley High. Harvard-Westlake plays Santa Ynez at 8 p.m. in a Division III semifinal at Brentwood High.
Second-seeded Royal (19-0) struggled briefly against Thousand Oaks on Friday, but won in four games. Third-seeded Capistrano Valley (18-1) features USC-bound Ryan Thurlow and one of the top juniors in the nation, 6-foot-5 Beau Rawi, who can touch 11-8.
Trevor Julian, who has signed with USC, is the key player for third-seeded Harvard-Westlake (14-4) against second-seeded Santa Ynez (19-1), the two-time defending division champion.
The Pirates feature Larry Witt--a junior outside hitter whose brother, Andy, started for NCAA-champion Stanford as a freshman--and Mike Wall, a 6-4 outside hitter who has committed to Brigham Young.
