Rep. Molinari Leaving Seat for TV News Job, Sources Say

NEW YORK — U.S. Rep. Susan Molinari (R-N.Y.) is expected today to be named co-anchor of a new CBS news program and will give up her congressional office by the end of summer, sources said Tuesday.
CBS was scheduled to hold a news conference in New York to announce that Molinari will fill one of the anchor slots on “CBS News Saturday Morning,” a weekend edition of its current weekday morning show that will join the schedule in September in place of children’s programming.
Molinari, 39, was a keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention last summer and is one of the most visible women in the GOP. She has been a frequent guest on television public-affairs talk shows.
Molinari, now in her fourth term, is married to Rep. Bill Paxon, a Buffalo-area Republican. The couple have a 1-year-old daughter.
As recently as last August, Molinari said she was considering running for the seat of Sen. Alfonse M. D’Amato (R-N.Y.) but would not challenge him if he decided to go for a fourth term. She succeeded her father, Guy Molinari, in the House.
CBS officials declined official comment Tuesday.
