Escaping the Car

I want to commend you for your two “Weekend Escapes” on April 20 (“Car-Less in Coronado”) and May 4 (“Not Your Typical TJ”). Because Los Angeles and surrounding counties are considered mostly urbanized, it is a welcome change to see car-less trips.
It really doesn’t matter how a family enjoys the sights as long as someone else is doing the driving or the entire family rides bicycles or walks extensively.
But you don’t have to take the ferry to Coronado or take the trolley to Tijuana. Amtrak goes to so many places from Union Station in Los Angeles and takes you, your luggage and in many cases, your bicycles, that the possibilities are nearly unlimited.
Please make car-less weekend escapes a regular feature of your travel section!
