Jury Appreciation

Re “Jurors Find That Doing Their Duty Pays Off,” May 13: How lucky that the jurors “doing their duty” get “appreciated.” Having recently finished my third tour of jury duty, I must say they are fortunate to get a few perks/frills because the regular service does leave a lot to be desired. Yes, there are those who enjoy being away from the office or home and don’t mind going into a controlled environment. I felt what it must be like to be under “house arrest”! I know that it is important to do jury service, but I really felt somewhat punished by the treatment I received. There are only so many “we really appreciate the time you are taking to serve on this panel”; especially as day 10 comes and continues to 11, etc. It can be an intimidating experience, one most people just want to end.
I know too many people who have never had the pleasure of “the jury room” and it is time they did! Perhaps they could serve the one week a year “jurors find that doing their duty pays off”!
