Teacher at Early Childhood Center Honored

Mae Crump, an instructor at Cal Lutheran University’s Early Childhood Center, was honored as Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Ventura County Assn. for the Education of Young Children. Crump, 79, has taught at the school for 10 years, the last five as an on-call substitute. The Newbury Park resident was recognized for her “years of dedication to the profession.”

Panhellenic Group Awards 2 Scholarships

* Ventura Area Panhellenic announced the winners of its two $1,000 scholarships, which will be awarded during a June 7 ceremony. The winners are Nancy Epping, a Ventura High School graduate, and Esperanza Serrato, a Channel Islands High School graduate. Epping is a senior at Cal State Northridge majoring in physical therapy; Serrato is a senior at Cal Lutheran majoring in education. Ventura Area Panhellenic is an organization of college alumnae who belonged to national sororities while in college.

Superintendent’s Newsletter Wins Award

* Focus on Education, a countywide newsletter from the Ventura County superintendent of schools office, received a first-place award from the California Public Relations Assn. at a ceremony in San Diego. The directory of programs and services was cited for helping make the office more accessible to the public.

Secretaries Group Honors Member

* Wanda Sutman of Thousand Oaks was selected as the 1997 Outstanding Member of the Year by the Anacapa chapter of Professional Secretaries International, an association for office professionals. The award is presented to the member who best exhibits participation in chapter committees and functions. Sutman is employed by Western Holdings Group in Thousand Oaks.
