The Southern Section’s best gather at Cerritos College Saturday for section finals in Divisions I, II, III and IV. Field events begin at 11 a.m. and running events at 1 p.m.
Top county participants include Huntington Beach’s Scott Moser, who set the state record in the discus Wednesday with a throw of 213 feet 11 inches.
Mission Viejo pole vaulter Sarah Higham, who jumped 11-9 last week, is after the section record of 12-1 1/4. She’ll be joined by teammate and multi-event standout Ashley Bethel. Tustin’s Dominique DeGrammont will compete in the 110 hurdles.
Saturday’s top nine finishers (top 12 in the 3,200s) in each event across the divisions advance to the Masters Meet, May 30 at Long Beach Veterans Stadium. There, they will compete for one of five spots in the state meet, June 6-7 at Sacramento City College.
