Your article “In Fowl Territory” (May 6) that described the growing popularity of chicken as a food choice failed to mention the dark side of the poultry industry.
Chickens on factory farms live miserable existences crammed into tiny, filthy cages.
Producing chicken causes widespread pollution of waterways and ground water. To produce 1 pound of chicken takes 6 pounds of feed and eight times as much fossil fuel as is needed to produce the same amount of protein from tofu.
