The Chaminade High baseball team, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, received the top seeding in the Southern Section Division II playoffs Monday as teams were selected for postseason play.
Action starts today with wild-card rounds. Chaminade (24-2) will host Atascadero in Friday’s first round. No. 2 Camarillo (22-5-1) is unseeded in Division I and would face No. 6 Notre Dame (18-8) in the first round if the Knights win today’s wild-card game against Santa Monica.
No. 3 Calabasas (24-2) is seeded third in Division IV and will host Fillmore on Friday.
In softball, No. 1 Thousand Oaks (23-3) is seeded second behind Santa Ana Foothill in Division I and could face Marmonte League rival No. 4 Simi Valley in the second round. Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley (20-7) and No. 3 Camarillo (18-7) will all compete in Region III, and for the first time since 1991, only three Marmonte League teams made the playoffs. No. 9 Newbury Park (18-8) was left out after being ranked fifth in Division III on May 5.
No. 2 Saugus (22-5), the Division II champion, is seeded third.
