Santa Ana Mater Dei, which has already won Southern Section titles in football and boys’ basketball, is favored to win a baseball title as well after being seeded first in the Division I playoffs.
The pairings were announced Monday for baseball and softball. Competition begins today and concludes with title games in six divisions June 6-7.
Mater Dei (22-3) plays host to the winner of today’s El Toro-University wild-card game, in the first round Friday.
In softball, top-ranked Garden Grove Pacifica is seeded No. 1 in Division III and hosts Placentia Valencia in the first round Friday.
For the first time, school’s divisional placement is based on enrollment and not league affiliation. Each division also consists of four regionsmade up of teams from similar geographic areas.
