You Can Call This Bluff Impressive

I Ain’t Bluffing did the expected and remained unbeaten in two California starts with a victory in the $108,500 Railbird Stakes on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

It took a little longer to become official than her connections--owners Jan, Mace and Samantha Siegel and trainer Ron Ellis--and those who took 6-5 odds would have liked.

There was a lengthy stewards’ inquiry involving an incident around the far turn, where Alzora, who wound up finishing fourth, had to take up while in tight along the rail.

But there was no change in the order of finish. I Ain’t Bluffing was two lengths in front of 5-2 second choice Really Happy in 1:22 3/5 for the seven furlongs.

Sidelined since a 10-length victory in an allowance race at Santa Anita on March 13, I Ain’t Bluffing, the 3-year-old daughter of Pine Bluff, laid close to the pace set by Tough Sport early, then collared Really Happy, who slipped through along the inside to open a length lead inside the sixteenth pole. I Ain’t Bluffing has won three of five races.

“This filly will run all day, there’s no question about that,” said Ellis. “I think the farther she goes, the better off she’ll be. I’m really just surprised she shows this much speed.

“In her works in the morning, she just loafs along and when you ask her to finish, she takes off. We’re going to follow the [3-year-old filly) series here--the Princess [Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on June 14] and the [Hollywood] Oaks [at 1 1/8 miles on July 6]. She’s followed her schedule fine and started off the agenda the right way.”

With Gary Stevens away at the Preakness, Eddie Delahoussaye was aboard I Ain’t Bluffing for the first time Sunday.
