Bicyclists Sought for Group Commute

Those looking to make the air a little cleaner will have their chance Thursday, California Bike Commute Day 1997.
To celebrate the state event locally, the 12th Council District Transportation Management Assn. will team up with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and other organizations to host Group Commute Ride ’97.
“What we’re trying to do is get the community to try bicycle commuting,” said Aaron Hanson, executive director of the association. “Bike commuting is cleaner than ride-sharing in that it eliminates a cold start altogether.”
Experienced bicyclists who work in the northwest Valley are invited to traverse the Santa Susana Pass from the Simi Valley Metrolink station to the Chatsworth depot--a 10-mile bike ride.
Beginning bicyclists are urged to ride their bikes to the Metrolink station nearest their homes, board their train with their bikes and commute to the Chatsworth depot, where they’ll meet up with the Simi Valley bicyclists for breakfast. Everyone is expected to then ride to work.
All bicycle commuters who register will receive a round-trip Metrolink ticket, Los Angeles and Ventura county bikeway maps, discounts from local bike shops and other bicycle-related items.
Registration forms are available at the transportation information display in the lobby of the Chatsworth depot.
