Elderly Man Arrested in Alleged Molestation

Oxnard police have arrested an elderly man on suspicion of molesting a young girl, authorities said Sunday.

Jesus Rodriguez Medina, 76, of Oxnard was arrested Thursday after he tried to lure the 11-year-old to his home, police said.

According to authorities, Rodriguez allegedly first approached the girl Wednesday on her way to school near the intersection of Nectarine and San Marino streets. During that meeting, the girl said, Rodriguez hugged and kissed her, after which she told her parents, police said.

About 9 a.m. the following day, Rodriguez allegedly approached the girl a second time, hugged her and offered her money to accompany him home. However, the girl’s aunt witnessed the incident and contacted police.

After a brief search, Rodriguez was arrested in the 300 block of East Laurel Street.

He was booked into Ventura County Jail and held in lieu of $20,000 bail. He was released late Sunday, according to jail officials.

Authorities had no details on the release and officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s sexual assault unit are continuing to investigate the incident.
