Profitable 1st Quarter for Wet Seal

IRVINE — Wet Seal Inc., an Irvine women’s apparel retailer, said profit for its fiscal 1998 first quarter rose to $3.5 million, or 25 cents a share, from $722,000, or 6 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales for the quarter ended May 3 increased 19% to $95.6 million from $80.6 million.
