Mother and Child, 5, Are Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in South-Central

A mother and her young daughter were killed Saturday when a pickup truck plowed into them in South-Central Los Angeles.
Police said the 30-year-old mother was pushing her 5-year-old daughter across San Pedro Street in a two-wheel laundry cart when a pickup truck passed a car that had stopped for them and hit the pair about 5 p.m.
The woman died at the scene, and the child was pronounced dead at California Hospital Medical Center.
Police were withholding the identities of the two late Saturday, pending notification of relatives.
Police said they were looking for the driver of the pickup who was seen fleeing from the scene northbound on Grand Avenue. Police described the truck as a mid- to late-1970s model full-size two-tone brown pickup with a dark brown stripe down its middle.
