Waves Rise as Gore Shoots 68

Jason Gore of Pepperdine shot a four-under par 68 on Friday to help the Waves climb from 11th to seventh place at the NCAA Division I West Regional golf tournament at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee.

Gore, who went to Hart High, tied for the low round of the tournament with several others.

The Waves have a team score of two-over par 578 and trail leader Arizona State by 11 strokes.

The top eight teams after today’s final round advance to the NCAA Championships.

Chad Wright of USC and Buena High, is second among individuals with a score of six-under par after shooting 70 to follow the 68 he had Thursday. He trails Pat Perez of Arizona State by one shot.

NCAA Men’s Division III tournament--Cal Lutheran finished 22nd at the Medallion Club in Westerville, Ohio.

North Carolina Methodist won the title with score of 1,191 over four rounds. The Kingsmen shot 1,346.

Clint Elsemore shot 79 to finish at 326 and leave him 29 strokes behind tournament winner Brion McLaughlin of Methodist.

David Richardson finished at 337, Jeremy White at 342 and Rick Brown at 343 for the Kingsmen.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Thousand Oaks 17, Highland 1--Jeff Linneman and Willie Mullin swept at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for the Lancers (13-6) in a Southern Section Division I wild-card match at Thousand Oaks.

Thousand Oaks also took all nine sets in doubles, led by the No. 1 team of Brandon Jordan and Jason Wines.

Highland’s No. 1 singles player Shawn Showers beat Mike Gorback, No. 3 for the Lancers, 6-0, for the Bulldogs’ only point.
