Shelburne Hits Homer and Sylmar Goes Home

Ramona Shelburne’s home run in the 10th inning gave second-seeded El Camino Real High a 6-5 victory over Sylmar in a City Section 4-A Division softball quarterfinal Thursday at El Camino Real.
El Camino Real (17-3) squandered the lead twice and needed assistance from the Spartans (9-11) in the form of two seventh-inning errors to tie the score, 5-5.
Cara Blumfield scored the tying run on a throwing error with two out.
Blumfield had three hits and scored three runs, while Shelburne drove in four runs with three hits.
Esmeralda Gonzalez hit a two-run home run for Sylmar in the fourth inning to tie the score, 4-4.
Granada Hills 2, Banning 1--Pauline Bolyard and Amy Mathit run-scoring singles with two out in the fourth inning and the sixth-seeded Highlanders (13-7) made the lead stand up against third-seeded Banning (18-6) in a 4-A Division quarterfinal at the Wilmington Jaycees’ Complex.
Carson 10, Monroe 0--Rachel Zacarias (10-3) pitched a five-hitter for the fifth-seeded Colts (17-8) in a 4-A quarterfinal at Monroe (11-9).
Vanessa Vargas had two hits for the fourth-seeded Vikings.
Kennedy 4, San Pedro 0--Sandra Durazo pitched a five-hitter and had five strikeouts for the top-seeded Golden Cougars (20-4) in a 4-A quarterfinal at Kennedy.
Christina Garcia hit a two-run triple and scored on a triple by Monica Espita during a four-run first inning.
Cynthia Barraza had two hits for Kennedy.
Verdugo Hills 15, Crenshaw 0--Kim Wood pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks for the second-seeded Dons (20-3) in a 3-A quarterfinal game at Verdugo Hills.
Wood had two hits and two RBIs. Tiffany Galante finished with three hits and two RBIs.
The Dons play third-seeded South Gate on Tuesday in a rematch of the 1996 title game, won by Verdugo Hills.
