Baffert Hopes Post No. 7 Lucky for Silver Charm

Silver Charm, trying to become the first Kentucky Derby winner to win the Preakness since Sunday Silence in 1989, drew the No. 7 post for Saturday’s race and was installed Wednesday as the 9-5 favorite.

The 122nd Preakness, which at 1 3/16 miles is 110 yards shorter than the Derby, drew 10 starters. The second choice at Pimlico, at 2-1, is Captain Bodgit, who finished second by a head in the Derby.

Bob Baffert, who trains Silver Charm, approved of his post and said he likes the idea of the speed in the race--Concerto--being on the inside. Silver Charm is expected to come from off the pace, as he did in the Derby. Captain Bodgit, drawing the No. 9 post, will not be at a disadvantage, because his style is to race from far back.

All of the horses will carry 126 pounds, same weight as the Derby.

The purse will be $751,000, with $488,150 going to the winner.

The forecast for Saturday is partly cloudy, with a chance of rain and temperatures in the 60s.
