Re “The Next Step for Motherhood,” Commentary, May 11: Isn’t it wonderful? Our researchers have discovered that among women today, having a child has no impact on levels of stress; that having a child causes no psychological distress, but that leaving the labor force does; that working mothers do not have to deal with isolation, boredom or loss of freedom.
Thank goodness, women today recognize that having a child is just another incident in their lives and that they can devote themselves to the real work of living--taking care of themselves.
Did the study investigate the stress levels of the children of these women?
