Buckley on the NRA

William F. Buckley Jr. (Commentary, May 8) deserves our thanks for urging National Rifle Assn. absolutists to climb off their slippery slope argument (“give one inch, they will take one mile”).

But that slope is mighty crowded with others whom Buckley would do well to also admonish: absolutists who oppose abortion, assisted suicide and euthanasia, quality-of-life judgments, contraception, homosexual practices (including marriage), sex before marriage, abolition of the death penalty, to mention only some.
