Schultz Throws Kennedy for 1-0 Loss

Mike Schultz of Cleveland High pitched a four-hitter to win a pitching duel against Jon Garland of Kennedy, 1-0, on Tuesday in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game at Cleveland.
The Cavaliers (15-10, 11-5) swept Kennedy in a season series for the first time and moved into a tie with the Golden Cougars (19-10, 11-5) for the North Valley League lead.
Garland (8-3) pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks. Schultz (6-3) struck out seven and walked three.
Chris Vasquez singled home Max Santillan from second base with two out in the fifth inning. Santillan singled and took second on a groundout.
Cleveland can clinch the league’s top spot for the City playoffs with a victory at Granada Hills on Thursday.
El Camino Real 1, Birmingham 0--Freshman Mike Grossman singled home Ray LeDuc in the fourth inning and the Conquistadores clinched a playoff spot in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Birmingham.
With a runner on second base and one out in the bottom of the seventh, LeDuc made a diving catch of a foul ball and threw out a runner at third to end the game.
Kurt Birkins (3-0) pitched a six-hitter, struck out six and walked two for El Camino Real (15-10, 10-6).
Alberto Flores pitched a three-hitter, struck out five and walked four for the Braves (16-14, 8-8).
Chatsworth 18, Taft 11--Frank Dipoma had four hits, including a grand slam, and the Chancellors clinched the Northwest Valley Conference title at Taft.
Greg Wold drove in three runs with three hits, including a two-run double, for Chatsworth (17-8, 12-4), while Matt Arronson had a two-run triple and a two-run double for the Toreadors (14-12, 7-9).
San Fernando 4, Granada Hills 1--Jorge Rocha singled to drive in Tony Cardenas and break a 1-1 tie in a three-run sixth inning for the Tigers (12-14, 3-13) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at San Fernando.
Poly 13, Grant 1--Jaron Brignac pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and Gil Pelayo drove in five runs for the Parrots (17-12, 12-4), who remained a game behind first-place North Hollywood in the East Valley League.
Pelayo had two hits, including a two-run single and a two-run double. Gus Banuelos had two hits, including a solo home run.
Poly and Sylmar, tied for second, play Thursday at Poly in a regular-season finale.
Reseda 19, Canoga Park 4--Sophomore right-hander Leo Rosales (4-3) pitched a four-hitter, striking out 10 for the Regents (11-11, 8-8) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Jason Woolman had three hits and scored four runs, and Chris Coleman had four hits, including a three-run double, for Reseda.
Chaminade 11, St. Francis 2--Chris Gray (9-1) pitched a four-hitter and Tyler Dersom drove in three runs for the Eagles (22-2, 9-2), who clinched a share of their first league title since entering the Mission League in 1986.
Gray pitched a four-hitter with two strikeouts and had two hits and two RBIs. Ryan Hamill was three for three.
Crespi 3, Harvard-Westlake 2--Joey Gennaro scored on Andy Campanella’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Celts a Mission League game at Valley College.
Dean Robb (2-2) retired 12 of 13 batters and struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings of relief for Crespi (18-8, 8-3).
Hueneme 10, San Marcos 7--Robert Avila hit a grand slam and Miguel Bravo added a solo home and the Vikings clinched a share of the Channel League title at Hueneme.
Pedro Cervantes added a two-run single for the Vikings, who clinched a share of the league title.
Rio Mesa 8, Ventura 2--Isaac Romero had two hits and two RBIs, and Jake Kor (7-3) faced the minimum of 21 batters for the Spartans (18-5, 9-4), who clinched a Channel League playoff berth at Rio Mesa.
Santa Barbara 4, Buena 1--Matt Foster singled to drive in Kurte Probasco for the Bulldogs (10-7-1, 6-6-1) in a Channel League setback at Buena.
Burroughs 5, Valencia 2--Tommy Nash had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the Indians (17-7, 12-2), who clinched a share of the Foothill League title at Burroughs.
Hart 12, Burbank 0--Bob Potruch hit two two-run home runs for the Indians in a Foothill League game at Burbank (4-19, 2-12).
Andy Davidson (4-1) gave up one hit over five innings with six strikeouts for Hart (17-8, 11-3).
Saugus 5, Canyon 2--Brent Pellico had two hits, including a solo home run that broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning of a Foothill League game at Saugus.
Kevin Giberson had three hits for Saugus (13-10-1, 9-5).
Calabasas 10, Santa Paula 0--The Coyotes (23-2, 14-0) had seven consecutive hits in the fifth inning of a Frontier League game at Santa Paula (5-16, 5-9).
Moorpark 4, Nordhoff 1--Chris Doan and Brian Gilbert had two-run singles for the Musketeers (15-9, 9-4) in a Frontier League game.
Justin Ames (6-4) pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight.
Noah Lowry pitched a four-hitter for the Rangers (10-11, 7-6).
Glendale 5, Pasadena 4--Jon Walton singled home Adolfo Sanchez with two out in the seventh for the Dynamiters (15-8, 7-7) in a Pacific League game at Glendale.
