Tennis Brawl Punishment Is Finalized

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Administrators remain tight-lipped about punishment handed down in the wake of a scuffle between a high school tennis coach and a 17-year-old player.

Agoura High Coach Stewart Limbert wrestled with Royal player Alexander Jensen near the close of what witnesses described as a rowdy tennis match between the schools at Agoura last week.

Accounts vary as to who started the altercation. Jensen admitted cursing Limbert. Witnesses said Limbert grabbed Jensen and pushed him to the ground.

While the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. investigates the incident, principals from both schools met this week.

“The situation has been resolved,” said Jim Wilber, Royal’s assistant athletic director. “It has been resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.”

Jensen was suspended from school Friday and dropped from the team for the Marmonte League finals Monday and Tuesday. The Norwegian exchange student and his host family declined to comment. Limbert also declined comment.

Agoura Vice Principal Fred Williams would not say if Limbert was punished.

“I would venture to say the action by both schools regarding both coaches will be fairly close,” Williams said.

At Royal, where Coach Bill Hardy was criticized by witnesses for losing control of his players, Wilber said the school’s actions “involved personnel matters.”

Neither coach accompanied his players to the league finals, administrators said.

The sheriff’s department is investigating a criminal complaint Jensen filed against Limbert. Detective Michael Berg hopes to present his findings to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office by the end of the week.
