The New Buzz: There is now some competition in the electric car market, where GM had been the only major player. Miller Honda in Van Nuys and three other Honda dealerships in California on Tuesday began leasing electric cars at $499 a month. Honda’s car, with the dealership’s Dwayne Johnson, above, is the first to be powered by a next-generation battery technology called nickel-metal hydride. Other auto makers are also preparing for 2003, when at least 10% of all new cars offered for sale in California must be emission-free.
