Public Input Sought on Wetlands

To hear the public’s ideas on how to restore the Bolsa Chica wetlands, a consortium of state and federal agencies is holding twin meetings this afternoon and evening.

The two meetings will have identical agendas, to double people’s chances of being able to attend and join the discussion.

Each meeting will start with an overview of the project to restore 1,200 acres of wetlands next to Huntington Beach, the bulk of which the State Lands Commission bought in February from a developer. Following that will be discussions of the tentative schedule and the need for a cleanup of contaminants at the site.

The first public hearing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. and the second from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave.

Involved with the restoration are the state Coastal Conservancy, Lands Commission, Resources Agency and Department of Fish and Game, as well as the federal Environmental Protection Agency, Fish and Wildlife Service, Marine Fisheries Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
