Local Authors to Talk at Library Tonight

In a celebration of books, authors and the written word, the Friends of the Calabasas Library will launch the first Local Authors Night tonight, a series of discussions featuring published writers living in and around Calabasas.

The fund-raising group will highlight one or two writers every other month to call attention to the artistic side of this small city and to the library services.

The library “is nice to show off your work and meet the people in your community and be recognized as someone in the arts,” said Karyn Foley, former city councilwoman and a library supporter.

The first writers featured will be cookbook author Ann Goldenson, and Laura and Jonathan Greenberg, who co-wrote “If You Can’t Remember Your Last Vacation, Then You Need This Book.”

Goldenson will discuss her experiences in publishing and explain the process of putting together a cookbook she is editing to benefit the library, which will feature recipes from community members.

The group has about eight authors booked for the series. Foley said she hopes other published authors will come forward. The speakers are expected to come from all genres, including poetry, short stories and nonfiction.
