Volunteerism

* Leave it to a conservative (Roger Hedgecock, “Liberals Surrender in Philadelphia,” Commentary, May 6) to mangle the principle behind the recent volunteers summit and to claim a victory over Big Government where there was none. It was government that served up its people on the sacrificial altar of altruism by claiming that volunteerism was a “duty” and a “moral obligation.” That was the principle behind the summit.
