For the traveler who has (almost) everything, consider the Odyssey globe.
By choosing topics on a keypad and touching a stylus to a country on the globe’s surface, the user can call up more than 40 facts, such as population, languages, currency and religions. The computerized system will even play local music and estimate travel time between two points.
New Metropolis software, due to debut June 1, will add information, such as month-by-month climate, proper pronunciation and distance from your hometown, for more than 500 cities. Facts on hotels and restaurants in top travel destinations are in the works for future software. The cost of the system, developed by Santa Clara-based Explore Technologies Inc., is $428.93, including California state tax. To order toll-free, call (888) 456-2343.
