Cal Lutheran Eliminated in Softball

Cal Lutheran’s softball season ended Saturday with an 8-0 loss to Simpson College in the NCAA Division III West Regional at UC San Diego.
Kelly Schade (19-3) of Simpson allowed only singles by Mandi Comer and Angela Catena in the fourth inning, striking out 10 and walking three.
The Storm (34-7), ranked No. 1 in the nation by the National Fast Pitch Coaches Assn., scored in all five innings of the shortened game.
Gina Delianedis (7-3) allowed seven runs, four earned, in 3 1/3 innings for fourth-seeded Cal Lutheran (26-12-1).
Top-seeded Simpson avenged Friday’s first-round loss to the Regals, who lost later Friday to UC San Diego in the double-elimination tournament.
Simpson defeated San Diego, 5-0, later Saturday and the teams will meet again today for the regional title.
The Storm is 3-1 against Cal Lutheran in postseason competition over the past three years.
Long Beach 2, Moorpark 1--Erin Russell squeezed home Jessica Zimmerman in the 10th inning for the top-seeded Vikings (40-5) in a Southern California Regional game at Long Beach.
The Raiders (25-20) lost to Long Beach by the same score Friday in the double-elimination tournament. Long Beach advances to the state tournament.
Corinne Long singled home Leah Barroso to give Moorpark, which stranded 10 runners, a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Moorpark 5, San Bernardino 2--The Indians (21-12) committed two errors in the sixth inning, allowing the Raiders to score four runs and break a 1-1 tie in a Southern California Regional game at Long Beach.
Danielle Stines drove in two runs with two hits for Moorpark.
BASEBALL
Pepperdine 7-16, Loyola Marymount 0-6--David Matranga had two home runs and three RBIs for Pepperdine in the first game of a West Coast conference doubleheader at Loyola Marymount.
Steve Schenewerk pitched a six-hitter in the opener.
Mark Lopez had three doubles and two RBIs for the Waves (34-24, 20-7) in the second game.
Tyler Ferrar had four hits, two of them homers, and three RBIs in the two games for the Waves.
MEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 4, Arizona State 2--The top-seeded Waves (22-6) won five of six singles matches and advanced to the NCAA Region VII championship match today against UC Santa Barbara at Malibu.
