Home Is Burned as New Fire Sweeps Rural Riverside Area

RIVERSIDE — Flames erupted in brushy hills and destroyed a home Saturday afternoon as another wildfire marched across dry Riverside County, authorities said.
It was not clear whether a mobile home or a house was destroyed.
Crews were dousing hot spots at a 2,400-acre Moreno Valley wildfire when the newest blaze started about 1:30 p.m. 10 miles away, said Joanne Evans, a Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman.
More than 150 firefighters, aided by six water-dropping helicopters and three retardant-dropping air tankers, battled flames that blackened more than 100 acres in the first hour, Evans said.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
The fire crackled through thickets of brush and bush just east of Lake Mathews and west of Highway 215, about 50 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Evans said there was no estimate of when it will be contained. “It’s just ripping through there right now,” Evans said.
On Friday, flames blackened 2,400 acres of grasslands between Moreno Valley and Lake Perris.
