Proposition BB

I am writing to protest the deception practiced on me as a voter. I supported Proposition BB in the past election. I did so in the sure and certain belief that the historically duplicitous behavior of the LAUSD Board of Education could not, with oversight, misappropriate those funds or go back on their word.

My wife, a teacher with the district for more than 30 years, warned me to reconsider and vote the measure down, citing board perfidy as her main reason. I ignored her caution.

I am a physician and know the value of an education and an environment conducive to learning. Earthquake damage, repainting, bathroom and classroom repair and air conditioning are what I voted for. Other areas of the city’s voter guides mentioned the Belmont High School construction, but not those distributed in the Valley. I wonder why not?

I’m sorry about the blundering the board has done in pledging support for spending tax dollars for any new facility before feasibility studies and cost analyses are complete. Ask the board how many of their offices are not heated and air-conditioned, either in the central or regional areas. Where the hell are the priorities? Not with the kids in the Valley who have waited over 15 years!

It’ll be one frigid day in hell before I vote for another local school bond issue.

I will, however, push for and vote for separation of the Valley from LAUSD and also for secession from the city.
