Mother of Fugitive Suspect in Huntington Murder Arrested

The mother of a fugitive murder suspect was arrested at her Buena Park home Saturday after attempting to get rid of evidence tied to the case, said Huntington Beach Police Officer Mike Kelly.

Sun Shin Park was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to murder and ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail, Kelly said. Police continue to search for her son, Peter Woon Park, 19, on an arrest warrant accusing him of murder.

The accusations stem from the shooting death Tuesday of Yujung Yang-Kong during a confrontation in an apartment complex in the 16800 block of Lynn Street in Huntington Beach. Police said Park and Yang-Kong belong to rival gangs in Downey. Police said the two men encountered each other at the apartment complex, argued, and that Park went to his car, returned with a handgun and shot Yang-Kong in the chest.

Kelly declined to discuss the evidence of which Park’s mother is accused of trying to dispose.

“It’s possible that other people might try to assist [Park] by harboring him,” Kelly said. “We’re hoping that the suspect will realize that involving other people will only bring trouble to them.”
