WESTMINSTER — A youth who was shot in the head while playing on a middle school’s basketball court died Saturday afternoon, police said.
The victim, identified as Khanh Bao Huynh, 16, of Santa Ana, died at 1 p.m. at UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was taken after the shooting late Friday afternoon, Westminster Police Sgt. Tom Finley said.
At the time of the 5:30 p.m. shooting, dozens of people were playing on the tennis and basketball courts and soccer and baseball fields of McGarvin Intermediate School, and many fled in terror when they realized someone had been shot.
Witnesses said the shooting happened during an argument among a group of teens on the basketball court.
A gun was found on the school roof, but police are not sure whether it was used in the shooting, Finley said.
No arrests have been made, but Finley said police have new leads that they are investigating.
